As part of my grand plan to convince the world (and myself) that living in New Jersey isn’t so bad, I am exploring restaurants, coffee shops, and other places that make the Garden State great.
Located within the heart of Montclair in a house that dates back to 1860, Trend Coffee & Tea House (Trend) is a charismatic coffee shop that makes living in New Jersey not so bad.
Trend offers an extraordinary variety of coffees, teas, and chai. They have unique lattes like almond, Nutella, and honey oat. They also serve slushies as well as milk and non-milk bubble teas. If you order your drink “for here” it’s guaranteed to be delivered in a unique glass or mug.
As far as food goes, Trend serves vegan pastries made from traditional family recipes. If you aren’t in the mood for a sweet treat, you can order crepes, paninis, and other sandwiches.
The atmosphere of the coffee shop matches the amazing drinks and food. Local art, which is available for purchase, lines the walls. Awards and press releases are on display to confirm their success.
The best part is the amount of seating available. There are couches and chairs near the windows and high-top tables in the front. The back of the coffee shop features couches and tables for people to work or friends to gather. There is a permanent stage for open mic nights, poetry readings, and other jam sessions.
I have been to Trend many times. My go-to order for most coffee shops is a large vanilla iced latte with almond milk. This is the same for Trend. Almost every time, I order a large vanilla iced latte with almond milk and an extra shot of expresso (making it 3 shots instead of 2). It’s perfect every single time.
One time, I ordered the lavender therapy bubble tea. This is made of black milk tea, lavender, and Trend’s signature boba. While I love the taste of the liquid part of the drink, I quickly realized I only like boba when it's on top of my frozen yogurt. I’m not a big fan of sucking a straw and balls launching into the back of my throat. However, if you love that sensation, I highly recommend trying a bubble tea.
I have also ordered the almond latte which I believe is a latte with almond syrup/flavoring and almond milk. I’ve also had the lavender latte, which is a classic latte with lavender flavoring. I liked these lattes a-latte (I'm sorry).
Trend Coffee & Tea House is located at 411 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, NJ. They are closed on Mondays. They are open 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; 9:30 - a.m. - 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Sundays.
